OUR INTERVIEW WITH KAREN SANDERS OUR HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER WHO HAS OVER 20 YEARS GLOBAL HR EXPERIENCE IN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES.
Why did you choose human resources as a career?
“What I like about working for a labour hire firm (we’re so much more than recruitment!) is working in a dynamic environment where things are always changing and no two days are ever the same. I also really enjoy the people I work with – the Mills/TL team and particularly Darryl are why I choose to stay.”
Why and how did you arrive at Mills?
“I joined Gem Recruitment and worked with them for nearly 5 years. When Darryl acquired Gem, I came with the consultants to join the Mills team. I arrived at Mills in early May 2016 and have been working on a flexible basis ever since.”
What are the benefits and your requirements of working from home?
“Working from home and flexibly means you need to be highly organised and disciplined. Work is integrated into my life and there is always work calling out to me from my home study. But the huge benefit is I can work around my kids… I see their sports carnivals, lapathons, science mornings and can take them to appointments or not feel torn in half if they are sick and need to stay home. I also have (and had at Gem) supporting and understanding bosses who get the juggle of raising kids.”
What are your values and ethics towards your line of work and the company you work for?
“My values pretty much match Mills’ values – we created them as a team, so no surprises there. Integrity, ethical, hardworking, trustworthiness, valuing people and their contributions, fun (a little bit – I do work in HR), fair and rewarding.”
